Maggie van Galen, Author & Wordsmith

Hi! I’m Maggie, and words are my gig!

“Always Follow Your Dreams!” That’s how I sign my books, and the mantra I live by. Dreams don’t always show up fully formed, and that’s okay. The important thing is to keep moving toward them. I’m proud to say I’m living mine.

My story starts in northern Michigan. (If you’ve ever met a Michigander, you know we use our “mitten” hand as a map. I’m from the tip of the pinky.)

I’ve been writing since I could hold a pen, and my love for storytelling led me to Michigan State University (go green!), where I studied advertising, journalism, and creative writing. After living in multiple states and countries, building a career, and starting a family, the stories inside me finally demanded a voice, and that’s when my journey as an author and wordsmith truly began.

My Philosophy

Writing for small businesses is not just about filling pages with words. It’s about telling a story. Your story. The one that connects with your audience, builds trust, and helps them understand who you are and why you do what you do. I craft copy that’s clear, engaging, and easy to navigate, but always rooted in authentic storytelling that brings your brand to life.

Maggie van Galen as a young writer

Fun (or funny) Facts About Me:

  • I have a 125 pound Bernese Mountain Dog named Koning, Dutch for King. He is the inspiration for my King’s Day Out book series.

  • I used to be a ski instructor!

  • I have five children’s books published and one book of poetry (now out of print).

  • I’m terrified of heights and once had a full-on panic attack at the top of the The Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.

  • When I turned 40, purple became my favorite color! The deep, eggplant shade of purple to be specific. I had a purple couch, purple car, purple logo … hasn’t really changed!

  • I graduated from Leland Public High School with 25 people … the same 25 I started kindergarten with (give or take a few).

My Tribe

Being an entrepreneur is empowering! It means working on your schedule, at your pace, with the clients you want to work with. It can also be scary, isolating, and lonely. Having a village to lift and support me has been a saving grace.

Through global pandemics, financial uncertainty, and the need for human connection, my tribe has been more than just networking; it has been a lifeline that has propelled me into the writer I am today.
